Trip to Garni and Geghard
The restored temple at Garni, dating from the first century AD, is a splendid example of ancient architecture. At one time a great complex of palaces and temples, serving as a summer residence for the Armenian Kings, stood here. We may have an enjoyable walk down to the Garni gorge where one cannot help admiring basalt formations and natural beauty.
Not far from Garni there is a fantastic sample of medieval Armenian architecture, the Geghard Cave Monastery. Some buildings were cut carved out of solid rock. The acoustics inside is amazing: in some enclosures the sound can last up to 40 seconds. The secret of the chamber has never been found. Overnight in Yerevan.
